Cookies
Saturday night Kyle and I had an ingenious idea.
We went to target and got some cookie dough.
And you know, it was really nice just sitting around with him in my kitchen baking.
We decided to bake cookies for Ra Ra Riot. We went and saw them in Chapel Hill a the Local 506 two months ago and were uber excited that they were coming to Fredericksburg. Anyway, we made chocolate chip cookies with kiss ables in them because the colors were just too fun to pass up.
On the way there I was rummaging around the car for the cookies when he realized he had left them on the roof. It was about that time we heard a thud and I raced out into the street to get them. Luckily, they were completely unharmed.
I commend Ziploc for making amazing plastic ware. It saved the band cookies.
We got to the Fredericksburg All Ages and set out to find a band member. The space itself was actually really neat. Since I just move here, I haven't been around much. I was pleasantly surprised. It was comprised of a loft decorated to look like something between an art gallery and prom. Carlos I'm Pregnant had just gone on. They were excellent for a high school band. Their keyboardist especially was great. I spotted Milo from Ra Ra Riot standing close to us and jabbed Kyle in the rib. So between song we went and spoke to him.
He was incredibly nice! And really excited to get cookies. He introduced himself and we introduced ourselves. And after the formalities were over he went to share them wit the rest of the band. At the last show, I had a really great conversation with Rebecca. I've been really impressed with how nice they are to their fans.
Princeton came on and when I turned around Mathieu from Ra Ra was giving me the thumbs up and was eating one of the cookies. During that set I saw Rebecca and Wes eating them too. Princeton was great. I ended up buying one of their EPs. I would have gotten a shirt but my band shirt drawer is currently overflowing and I already had one of Ra Ra Riot's.
Ra Ra Riot's set was fantastic. They have a great live sound. While listening to the Rhumb Line I originally thought a lot of editing had taken place. But their sound, as it turns out, is just that clear and beautiful.
Between songs Wes was talking and said, "We want to give a shoutout to the people who baked us cookies." We were really excited. He went on to say that they really liked them and thanks.
They didn't do an encore. But the again, we didn't expect one. With the venue and the band being sick (they cancelled the show before this one because o his voice). But he played everything I wanted to hear.
Their live performances have such energy. I could hardly get any good pics because they refused to stand still. "Suspended in Gaffa" is amazing live.
After the show while I was at the merch table, Wes was standing near and thanked me again. He was uber nice and I had nothing but compliments for the band.
Then, we all drove home. Me. Kyle. Amanda and Sheridan rode with us too. We were content having heard a night of great music, though our ears were a little more damaged than they were upon entering the loft.
End of story.
If you have a chance to see any band this year...see RA RA RIOT!
Right now I'm just sitting around and procrastinating.
I should be studying for finals, but I think I'll listen to "Bitter Sweet Symphony"
I wonder if The Verve knows what they have done.
